Down To The Football Final Four.

Oh I LOVE this time of year. Colts/Jets and Saints/Vikings. 3 awesome quarterbacks and a scrappy up and comer. I suspect the Colts/Jets game in the AFC Championship will be lower scoring grind it out type of game. Saints/Vikings for the NFC Championship is going to be a festival of offense.

If only I had friends coming over to watch the game and bring some beer. A good football party is a beautiful thing.

National Championships Should Never Be On A Monday Night.

9:20 p.m. and the Michigan State/North Carolina game hasn't even tipped off yet. The Final Four should be played on a Friday/Sunday schedule so people can actually watch the championship and still get to bed at a decent hour.

EDIT: Cricky!!! So much for the pride of the Big Ten! 10:07 to go in the first half and North Carolina is up by 20 points. Wow I never thought I would see a boring game, but unless you're a Tar Hell fan there's no point in even watching this blowout.

I'm Out Of The Pool By Now.

I got two out of the Final Four correct: North Carolina and Michigan St. To quote one friend, "You have Michigan St. in the Final Four! Are you nuts?" I grow tired of his insolence. Memphis not even getting to the Elite Eight hurt me as I had them playing in the National Championship game. Pitt-Villinova was an awesome game to watch and tight to the end. A shame I had Pitt winning it all (over the aforementioned Memphis) so I'm out of the pool now.

It has been a good ride while it lasted.

Day 1 And The Brackets Aren't Dead Yet.

Day One of March Madness. I LOVE this time of year. The thrill of the bracket is getting it right. To show you are the MacDaddy of basketball predictions. Little red lines bursting through your predictions are signs you failed. Nothing like looking at an opponent's bracket sheet and proclaiming, "Your powers are weak old man!"

Luckily on Day One I'm doing fine. A few minor loses, but nothing major yet. Of course we have Day Two tomorrow. Usually one of the First Rounds is a killer day. Any good upsets yet on your sheet?

The World Turned Upside Down.

I had a 5 game lead in the pool until this weekend. Thankfully North Carolina and Navy are doing as well as I expected and they won this weekend. Now I know South Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, and Louisiana State University are all ranked in the Top 25, but are not invulnerable. But did they ALL have to lose in the same weekend? Even my boat anchor Kent State Golden Flashes WON this weekend!

The League Commissioner will provide updates by Tuesday. I could still be in the lead, but even if I am still ahead my lead got crushed like an empty beer can. At least I don't have money invested in this pool. I just want the bragging rights baby!

This Makes So Much Sense For The Cubs

I'm not even a baseball fan. Yet if you're familiar with the Chicago Cubs, their history, their fans, their culture, their very frickin' obnoxious yuppie fashionable fans, then this will make sense. So I'll share this with you:

As I was explaining to my neighbor Joe, the beauty of this postseason defeat for the Cubs is that for Cubs fans it ruins next season as well. While they were swept in last year's playoffs, they weren't expected to do much in the post season. This year, they were the team to beat, at least in the NL. Now, even if they win the division going away next year, everyone will be worried about yet another postseason debacle. Cubs fans won't be able to enjoy the regular season success of next year until it is validated by post season success. In other words, the Cubs have already ruined 2009, and the 2008 WorldSeries hasn't even started yet.

Final Four Is Set And I'm Still In The Hunt

UCLA vs Memphis and North Carolina vs Kansas. Okay I had Kansas and UCLA in my pool so I'm still alive. I can't believe all #1 seeds make it to the Final Four. That simply doesn't happen. I wonder how much money I could have made if I bet one dollar on that before the tourney started?

As long as UCLA wins I have a shot at the pool.

UPDATE: 14:16 to go and UCLA is still down by 9 points. Oh this is going to hurt!
